Yacht Rental Fort Lauderdale

Fort Lauderdale yacht rentals depart from Bahia Mar Yachting Center (just off A1A at Las Olas) or the New River downtown. Charters start at $700/hr and run on a deeper, larger fleet than Miami — 100'+ yachts are the norm here. Most popular routes: New River mansion-tour, Hillsboro Inlet ocean run, and the Intracoastal up to Boca.

Fort Lauderdale vs. Miami

Fort Lauderdale has more 100'+ yachts (the city is the world's mega-yacht capital), calmer Intracoastal water, and easier mansion-tour routes (Las Olas Isles, Idlewyld).

Miami has the celebrity-homes loop, Stiltsville, and the South Beach skyline. Many guests do a half-day in each city when staying for a long weekend.

Best routes from Fort Lauderdale

New River loop (2 hr): Downtown → Las Olas Isles mansion tour.

Hillsboro Inlet (4–6 hr): Up the Intracoastal past Boca to Hillsboro Lighthouse, ocean swim time, return. Miami day-trip (8 hr): Down the Intracoastal through Hollywood/Aventura/Bal Harbour and into Biscayne Bay.

Where you board in Fort Lauderdale

Most Fort Lauderdale charters stage from Bahia Mar Yachting Center (801 Seabreeze Blvd, on A1A at Las Olas) — the marina made famous by the boat show — or from Las Olas Marina directly across the bridge.

Both put you on the Intracoastal within minutes, with garage parking on site. Downtown pickups along the New River work for guests staying at the Riverside or the Icon Las Olas towers, though the river adds a slow-speed stretch each way. As everywhere in the managed charter fleet, the exact slip is texted the morning of the charter.

A Fort Lauderdale afternoon, hour by hour

Board at 1pm at Bahia Mar. By 1:20 you're idling the Las Olas Isles — Millionaire's Row — where the tour boats point at the same mansions you're seeing from your own bow.

Drop south into Lake Sylvia, the city's celebrated anchorage lake, for a 90-minute swim and lunch stop, or run out Port Everglades inlet for an ocean leg when seas cooperate. Return at 4:40 against the golden light on the waterfront homes, dock at 5. Add two hours and Hillsboro Lighthouse is in reach; add four and Miami's skyline is on the table.

Season notes: boat-show week & winter up north

Late October's Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show is the busiest week of the year on this waterway — slips tighten, bridges queue, and charter dates around it sell out weeks ahead, so book early if your trip overlaps.

Winter (December–April) is prime: 75–80°F, dry air, and Intracoastal water that stays protected even when a front makes the ocean lumpy. Summer runs hotter with afternoon showers, but the mansion routes are sheltered and the crowds thinner than Miami's — a quietly good value season.

Frequently asked

Yes — an 8-hour charter gets you from Bahia Mar to South Beach and back via the Intracoastal. Faster yachts (40+ knot top speed) can make the run in under 90 minutes each way; most cruisers take 2–2.5 hours each way.

Slightly — the Fort Lauderdale fleet skews larger, so the median price is higher. Comparable size yachts (50'–80') cost about the same in either city.

Yes — it's protected flat water the entire way, closer to a river cruise than an ocean passage. Guests prone to motion sickness do noticeably better on Las Olas and Intracoastal routes than on offshore legs, and the captain can keep the whole charter inside if anyone's unsure.

Lake Sylvia is the classic stop — a protected, no-wake anchorage minutes south of Bahia Mar where boats raft up to swim and float. On calm days the captain can also anchor just off the beach outside Port Everglades for an ocean swim.
